Gansey sweaters

As part of the tradition of knitwear, the Gansey sweater is a really interesting object full of textural pattern (each fishing village having its own pattern to allow for the return of a sailors body if found at sea), sleeves that are knitted from the sleeve head to the cuff (to allow for easy repairs), short sleeves to ensure that they do not become wet and soiled from the gutting and hauling, and knitted very tightly and oiled to resist the harsh environment of the fishing boat deck.
